There is a captivating background to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where casino gaming is not allowed. Eight casinos are based in a generally tiny space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in a prime destination, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gambling centers in Asia. The 1st Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat gambling hall, features one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga river boat never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of 150 slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred one armed bandits and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and 66 of the normal gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive vacation and hotel complex that contains many luxuries aside from the casino, which contains 10,000 square feet of 130 one armed bandits and 88 gaming tables.
