The prospect of living in Zimbabwe is somewhat of a gamble at the current time, so you might imagine that there would be little affinity for visiting Zimbabwe’s gambling dens. In reality, it seems to be working the opposite way around, with the crucial economic circumstances leading to a greater eagerness to wager, to try and locate a quick win, a way from the difficulty.
For many of the citizens living on the tiny local wages, there are 2 common styles of gaming, the national lotto and Zimbet. As with practically everywhere else in the world, there is a national lottery where the odds of succeeding are extremely low, but then the winnings are also extremely high. It’s been said by economists who understand the subject that many don’t buy a card with the rational belief of profiting. In addition to Zimbabwe’s gambling halls and the above talked about lottery and Zimbet (which is very like a parimutuel betting system), there are a total of two horse racing complexes in the nation: the Matabeleland Turf Club in Bulawayo (the 2nd metropolis) and the Borrowdale Park in Harare.
Since the market has contracted by more than forty percent in recent years and with the associated poverty and conflict that has resulted, it is not well-known how healthy the vacationing industry which is the foundation for Zimbabwe’s gambling halls will do in the near future. How many of them will carry through until conditions improve is merely unknown.
