There is an appealing history to the Cambodia casinos that reside just over the border from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall gaming is against the law. Eight casinos are anchored in a generally tiny location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent area, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income gained from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; still, financial sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are for all intents and purposes required to pass, there are means around this, as is real of many border crossings.
The first Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary barge gambling hall, features 150 slot machines and sixty table games. The Naga casino is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are 150 one armed bandits and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machines and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including 87 punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and 66 of the normal gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational vacation and hotel building that highlights a number of luxuries on top of the gambling hall, which houses ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 table games.
