There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling hall gambling is against the law. Eight gambling dens are based in a relatively small location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent location, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of restrictions requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; still, financial sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 17:00, and though visas are apparently required to cross, there are methods around this, as is real of many border crossings.
The first Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked bateau gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty slots and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred one armed bandits and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel building that features a number of amenities accompanying the casino, which contains 10,000 square feet of 130 slot machines and 88 gaming tables.
