There is an appealing background to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the border from neighboring Thailand, in which casino wagering is prohibited. Eight casinos are based in a generally small space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime destination, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The amazing capital accrued from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; still, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are supposedly required to pass, there are methods around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.
The 1st Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored bateau casino, contains one hundred and fifty slot machine games and sixty gaming tables. The Naga casino is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred one armed bandits and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive vacation and hotel compound that features numerous conveniences in addition to the casino, which contains ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and eighty eight gaming tables.
